Destiny
My teaching journey began during my time as a student at The Queen’s High School. I remember distinctly that in second form, whenever a teacher was absent, I would confidently stand before the class and take charge. Little did I know that God was preparing me for His purpose for my life, the trajectory of teaching.
To be honest, my aspiration was become a lawyer. But, the Almighty God had a greater plan for my life. I later began teaching Sunday school at my church. From that point on, I never stopped teaching. I now consider teaching a divine mantle, a sacred calling that God Himself placed upon my life. He gave me a heart filled with love and passion for educating others.
I have been teaching for over 15 years and have served at every level of the secondary school system. My experience spans across traditional and non-traditional institutions, high performing and ‘underperforming’ schools, and both single sex and coeducational environments. Through these experiences, I have garnered a great deal and insights.
I have witnessed the unique cultures and climates of various schools and have come to understand some of the factors that contribute to their successes or challenges. However, one key lesson stands out: regardless of whether a school is labelled high performing or not, every institution faces its own issues. Some challenges are more visible than others, but they all exist.
Over time, I’ve gained insight into the deep-rooted issues that can hinder a school’s progress and affect staff morale , and more importantly, I’ve come to see that these issues can be addressed. With deliberate effort and commitment, even longstanding problems can be fixed.
